About the position

The Pharmacy Technician Student position at Denver Health is designed for motivated individuals seeking to gain practical experience in a pharmacy setting. Under the direct supervision of a pharmacist or certified pharmacy technician, the student will perform essential pharmacy-related functions to ensure optimal pharmaceutical care, including medication preparation, inventory management, and customer service. This role is integral to supporting the healthcare team and enhancing patient care through effective pharmaceutical practices.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares medications appropriately under supervision.
  • Pre-packs bulk medications and completes necessary documentation.
  • Fills patient-specific medications as directed.
  • Interacts with healthcare staff and patients to clarify and fill pharmaceutical orders.
  • Maintains stock in accordance with manufacturers' requirements.
  • Completes paperwork to track usage, outdated goods, billing, and shortages.
  • Assists with charging and crediting medication returns.
  • Restocks and delivers drugs and supplies to patient care areas or clinics.
  • Prepares inventories, receives drugs, and stocks shelves in pharmacy locations.
  • Logs drug receipts when inventory process owner is absent.
  • Notifies inventory process owner when stock levels are low.
  • Assists with inventory maintenance and control, including auditing and record keeping.
  • Maintains secure storage and records of all medications.
  • Handles and triages telephone and window inquiries.
  • Coordinates insurance billing for third-party prescriptions.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Ability to work as a team member.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of basic pharmacy practices and procedures.
  • Mathematical computation skills.
  • Strong organization and communication skills.
  • Good typing, keyboarding, and proofreading skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft® Office preferred.
