The Pharmacy Technician Trainee works closely with and under the direct supervision of the Pharmacists at Southern Ohio Medical Center (SOMC). This position is essential in assisting the Pharmacist with various tasks related to the preparation and distribution of medications. The primary responsibilities include managing inventory and stock replacement, ensuring accurate billing for patients and staff, and maintaining compliance with pharmacy regulations. The role is part-time, requiring 32 hours per week, and is located in Portsmouth, OH. The Pharmacy Technician Trainee is expected to develop their skills and knowledge in pharmacy operations while working towards certification as a Registered, Certified Pharmacy Technician in Ohio within 12 months of their registration as a Pharmacy Technician Trainee. Failure to obtain this certification within the specified timeframe may result in termination of employment. Responsibilities

  • Accept new written, faxed, or electronic prescription orders from a prescriber or a prescriber's agent.
  • Enter information into and retrieve information from a database or patient profile.
  • Prepare and affix labels for medications.
  • Stock dangerous drugs and retrieve those drugs from inventory.
  • Count and pour dangerous drugs into containers.
  • Place dangerous drugs into containers prior to dispensing by a pharmacist.
  • Perform non-sterile drug compounding.
  • Perform sterile drug compounding.
  • Package and sell dangerous drugs to patients or patient representatives.
  • Send or receive electronic prescriptions between pharmacies accessing the same prescription records in a centralized database or pharmacy computers linked in any other manner.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or successful completion of an equivalent High School Exam required.
  • Registered Pharmacy Technician Trainee required.
  • Registered, Certified Pharmacy Technician (OH) within 12 months of registration as Pharmacy Technician Trainee required.
  • Pharmacy Technician training program or prior technician work experience preferred.
