About the position

As a Pharmacy Technician Trainee at Giant Eagle, you will play a vital role in our collaborative pharmacy team. Your ability to communicate effectively will be essential, especially when referring questions about prescriptions and over-the-counter medications to the pharmacist. Maintaining a clean and organized work environment is crucial, as it ensures compliance with company and government regulations. You will assist your team members in various tasks to ensure the pharmacy operates smoothly and efficiently. Utilizing the pharmacy computer system, you will perform actions necessary to maximize efficiency, including managing patient profiles, checking medication counts, and processing invoices. You will also be involved in executing company initiatives and programs aimed at improving service outcomes. Training is a key component of this position, and you will be required to complete a training program along with any necessary exams. Adherence to company policies, state and federal laws, including HIPAA regulations, is mandatory. You will also handle cash register transactions according to established procedures, ensuring accurate sales finalization. Your role will include transcribing prescription data to generate custom labels, maintaining inventory levels, and addressing customer inquiries in a polite and timely manner. Responsibilities

  • Welcome patients and acknowledge them with compassion and a smile at all pharmacy entry points.
  • Model excellent patient care by engaging with patients and meeting their needs.
  • Process orders in person and by phone, directing patients to products and merchandise.
  • Refer appropriate questions concerning prescriptions and over-the-counter medicine to the pharmacist.
  • Maintain a neat and clean work environment to meet company and government requirements.
  • Assist team members with tasks to ensure the department runs efficiently.
  • Use the pharmacy computer to complete necessary actions for optimal patient care.
  • Assist team on action plans to improve outcomes using service and business metrics knowledge.
  • Execute all company initiatives and programs as required.
  • Complete the required training program and accompanying exams.
  • Follow all company, state, and federal policies, laws, and regulations, including HIPAA and Pseudoephedrine sales.
  • Finalize sales using the cash register according to established procedures.
  • Transcribe data from prescriptions accurately to generate custom labels for customers.
  • Assist with maintaining proper inventory levels by ordering, receiving, stocking, and rotating drugs and supplies.
  • Answer telephone calls in a polite and timely manner, ensuring accurate information exchange.
  • Resolve customer questions and concerns effectively and efficiently.
  • File written prescriptions daily.

Requirements

  • 0 to 6 months of experience in a related field.
  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • At least 18 years of age.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.

Nice-to-haves

  • Pharmacy Certification is preferred.
