About the position

Shenandoah Community Health (SCH) is seeking a dedicated Pharmacy Technician to join our team in Winchester, VA. As a Federally Qualified Health Center, SCH is committed to bridging the gap in healthcare access for our community. This role is essential in ensuring that our patients receive the medications they need in a timely and professional manner. Under the direct supervision of a registered pharmacist, the Pharmacy Technician will be responsible for preparing, packaging, and distributing medications, as well as performing clerical duties necessary for the operation of our pharmacy. This includes maintaining compliance with legal and regulatory requirements, managing register tills, and accurately entering patient information into our pharmacy software. The Pharmacy Technician will play a crucial role in patient care by greeting patients in a professional and compassionate manner, providing excellent customer service, and ensuring that all patient inquiries are addressed. This position requires a commitment to professionalism, including maintaining appropriate appearance and demeanor, and demonstrating courteous behavior towards patients and colleagues. The technician will also be responsible for maintaining continuing education requirements for licensing and ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations. In addition to patient care, the Pharmacy Technician will manage inventory and facility operations by keeping the pharmacy clean, ordering drugs, monitoring prescription inventory, and maintaining knowledge of the 340B drug program. This role is vital in helping to improve pharmacy inventory management and reduce costs, ultimately contributing to the profitability of the pharmacy and the well-being of our patients.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares, packages, and helps to distribute medications under the supervision of a registered pharmacist.
  • Performs clerical duties related to the operation of a Virginia and 340B pharmacy to maintain compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintains register tills and informs the pharmacist and Finance department of any inaccuracies.
  • Obtains and enters patient information into pharmacy software, including name, address, telephone number, insurance information, and allergies.
  • Processes incoming prescriptions for filling via various methods including fax, e-script, and phone.
  • Ensures correct medication is counted and filled for each prescription order before passing it to the pharmacist for verification.
  • Mixes or compounds medication under the direct supervision of a Virginia licensed pharmacist.
  • Greets patients in a cheerful and professional manner, providing excellent customer service.
  • Answers patient questions and documents interactions, offering pharmacist counseling as needed.
  • Maintains a clean and organized pharmacy environment, including dispensing and counseling areas.
  • Orders drugs from wholesalers for both 340B and non-340B drugs to ensure timely filling of prescriptions.
  • Monitors prescription inventory for expired pharmaceuticals and verifies invoices and statements.

Requirements

  • Current unexpired Virginia Certified Pharmacy Technician License issued by the Virginia Board of Pharmacy.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
