About the position

The Philanthropic Advisor will be responsible for strategically building, cultivating, stewarding, soliciting, and managing a portfolio of planned giving for current donors and prospects. This role involves developing long-term relationships with high-value donors, high-wealth prospects, and high-value volunteers. The candidate will also manage a portfolio of legacy donors and prospects, and collaborate across the organization to facilitate outright and planned gifts. This position is Michigan based with preference given to Detroit and Grand Rapids Metropolitan areas.

Responsibilities

  • Use fundraising experience and relationship-building skills to cultivate and steward a portfolio of donors through personal and event visits, written correspondence, telephone calls, and other forms of communication.
  • Create and execute a donor cultivation strategy for the entire portfolio.
  • Identify giving and relationship development opportunities.
  • Proactively interact with donors and prospects to ensure long-term commitment to the mission and funding of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital through planned giving vehicles.
  • Use extensive working knowledge of development practices, principles, fundraising, and relational knowledge to create and implement innovative and strategic donor cultivation and solicitation plans for appropriate donors.
  • Build and maintain expertise in general planned giving, tax considerations, and general fundraising knowledge to present to donors.
  • Confirm new members to the Danny Thomas St. Jude Society through timely and strategic follow-up on leads to grow the bequest program pipeline.
  • Capture data and information to guide donor strategies, documenting donor interaction and communication; utilize specialized software for a variety of giving vehicles.
  • Plan and execute local in-person Donor Appreciation Luncheons (DAL) and/or Donor Virtual Gatherings, to thank existing donors and expose prospects to the mission of St. Jude.
  • Stay current with internal and external industry-related trends, processes, and policies.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of facts relating to the mission, research, and patient care of St. Jude.
  • Represent ALSAC-St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital in all areas in such a manner as to reflect positively on the hospital and our fundraising organization.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree or more than 5 years of experience.
  • Experience in planned giving and major gifts.
  • Adept at building and sustaining relationships.
  • Strategic thinker and strong communication skills.
  • Experience cultivating and stewarding relationships with individuals.
  • Understanding of individual fundraising and strategic moves management processes.
  • Ability to speak and write in a clear and understandable manner for internal/external relations.
  • Time management and organizational skills to maximize donor interaction and adequate coverage of assigned portfolio.
  • Valid driver's license is required for this role.
