About the position

The Phlebotomist position at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital involves performing specimen collection from patients of all age groups, ensuring accurate labeling and handling of specimens, and providing excellent customer service. The role requires adherence to safety protocols and efficient management of specimen accessioning to support laboratory testing. This full-time position is focused on outpatient services and emphasizes patient-centered care and community health.

Responsibilities

  • Perform proper specimen collection from patients of all age groups, confirming patient ID and utilizing venipuncture/capillary techniques.
  • Demonstrate proper technique and knowledge of special procedures for specimen collection.
  • Participate in annual skills review and maintain current knowledge of collection methods.
  • Perform phlebotomy duties accurately and efficiently, completing routine draws in a timely manner.
  • Manage specimen accessioning accurately and efficiently to provide quality specimens for laboratory testing.
  • Provide customer service by answering technical questions and performing clerical duties.

Requirements

  • Successful completion of Phlebotomy training.
  • H.S. diploma or equivalent.
  • Familiarity with computer and office equipment, organizational and team skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • 40 hours of internship in Phlebotomy.
  • Previous 1 year Phlebotomy experience.
  • Completion of a Phlebotomy certification class or accredited course.
  • Experience with Laboratory Information Systems.
