About the position
The Phlebotomist role at BioReference Laboratories involves providing expertise in blood draws and specimen preparation, ensuring patient comfort and safety while collecting samples. This part-time position requires a commitment to high-quality care and adherence to established procedures and regulations.
Responsibilities
- Perform blood draws and specimen collection with minimal discomfort to patients.
- Label and store specimens according to established procedures.
- Explain the venipuncture process to patients in a clear and courteous manner.
- Demonstrate blood draw techniques using straight and butterfly needles.
- Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes and ensure accuracy.
- Package specimens for transport and store them according to required temperatures.
- Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations and wear appropriate PPE.
- Attend annual department trainings and answer telephone inquiries regarding laboratory results.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Valid Phlebotomy certification as required by state regulations.
- Minimum of 6 months' experience performing venipunctures in a lab or hospital setting.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
