About the position

The Phlebotomist role at BioReference Laboratories involves providing expertise in blood draws and specimen preparation, ensuring patient comfort and obtaining sufficient samples with minimal discomfort. This position is critical to maintaining high-quality care for patients and involves working in a fast-paced laboratory environment.

Responsibilities

• Perform blood draws and specimen preparation with minimal discomfort to patients.
• Label specimens accurately and ensure proper storage according to established procedures.
• Explain the venipuncture process clearly and courteously to patients.
• Demonstrate blood draw techniques using straight and butterfly needles.
• Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes and ensure correct labeling.
• Package specimens for transport and store them according to required temperatures.
• Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations and wear appropriate PPE.
• Attend annual department trainings and answer telephone inquiries regarding laboratory results.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Valid Phlebotomy certification as required by state regulations.
• Minimum of 6 months' experience performing venipunctures in a lab or hospital setting.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
