About the position

The Phlebotomist/Clinical Research Assistant is responsible for supporting clinical trials by performing protocol-specific procedures. This role is ideal for recent college graduates looking to start a career in clinical research, providing opportunities to learn about clinical trial conduct and work alongside experienced professionals. Key responsibilities include drawing blood, managing data entry, and ensuring compliance with clinical protocols.

Responsibilities

  • Check office phone voicemails and distribute to appropriate staff.
  • Pick up mail and distribute.
  • Update temperature logs daily.
  • Schedule Stericycle pickups.
  • Complete data entry after visit completion.
  • Upload ultrasounds, CT scans, and central biopsies in EDC.
  • Address queries in EDC.
  • Perform protocol procedures for each visit (e.g., obtain vital signs, ECG, height/weight, body measurements, Fibroscan, and collect blood samples).
  • Process, store, and ship lab specimens according to protocol-specific requirements.
  • Prep screening packets (including the study chart) and ensure the current version of the ICF is being used.
  • Chart prep for each study visit.
  • Create enrollment logs/lab inventory logs for assigned studies.
  • Schedule abdominal ultrasounds, liver biopsies, CT scans, MRI, EGD, and HVPGs.
  • Perform inventory of lab kits and monitor expiration dates on lab kits monthly.
  • Discard/destroy expired lab kits when needed.
  • Receive and store any shipments for assigned studies.
  • Perform recruitment calls for potential study patients/perform referral follow-up.
  • Attend clinic at another site for Fibroscans on a rotational basis.
  • Consolidate screen fail subjects into binders for assigned studies.
  • Perform monthly inventory for office and lab supplies.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Licensed Vocational Nurse or Medical Assistant
  • Ability to draw and process blood
  • 1 year of recent experience in clinical research or equivalent combination of education and experience is preferred.
  • Proficient with Microsoft applications (Outlook, Word, Excel) and Internet-based applications and EMR.
  • High degree of integrity and ability to maintain confidentiality in all patient and sensitive matters.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills.
  • Ability to work well with a team and maintain professionalism.
  • Adhere to the principles of ICH and GCP.
  • BCLS training required (company will pay for the class if not certified).

Nice-to-haves

  • Fluent in Spanish (preferred but not required)
  • Experience capturing vitals and performing ECG/EKG
  • Certified Medical Assistant (preferred)
  • Certified Phlebotomy Technician (preferred)
