About The Position

The Medical Technician (Phlebotomist) position at the VA Central Western Massachusetts Medical Center involves providing high-quality phlebotomy and laboratory services to veterans. Requirements

• Minimum of three (3) years of recent phlebotomy experience.
• Proficiency in phlebotomy skills, including ability to perform inpatient and outpatient blood draws.
• Fluent in English (speaking, reading, writing, and understanding).
• Ability to meet VA credentialing and privileging requirements.
• Completion of all required VA educational and mandatory training (provided upon onboarding).
• Current BLS certification (Basic Life Support).

Responsibilities

• Perform patient phlebotomy for inpatient, outpatient, Emergency Department (ED), STAT, and timed draws.
• Process and prepare specimens for testing or send-outs.
• Ensure positive identification of patients and samples to maintain safety standards.
• Safeguard electronic and paper patient information following strict privacy guidelines.
• Identify, document, and resolve collection, processing, or reporting issues.
• Deliver patient-centered care with professionalism and a focus on avoiding complaints.
• Collaborate across multiple areas of the laboratory as needed.
