Responsibilities

  • Perform routine phlebotomy procedures including venipuncture and finger or heel stick procedures.
  • Demonstrate proper patient identification using double identifiers and infection control practices.
  • Match barcode labels against wristbands prior to placement on tubes.
  • Effectively draw patient blood samples with minimal repeats and errors.
  • Follow Central Processing policy related to computer functions.
  • Train and teach students and staff in phlebotomy techniques.
  • Assume job assignments and staffing responsibilities in the absence of a supervisor.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • 1-2 years of experience in a hospital or nursing home setting.
  • Basic computer skills required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Phlebotomy Certification preferred.
  • Effective communication skills with all levels of the organization.
