About the position

The Phlebotomist II at Geisinger Primary Care Selinsgrove is responsible for performing venipunctures and skin punctures to obtain blood specimens, ensuring the highest analytical quality for testing. This role involves processing specimens, utilizing computer systems for patient registration and billing, and providing compassionate communication to patients throughout the blood drawing process. The position is part-time and offers flexibility, catering to various clinical environments including medical group offices and homebound patients.

Responsibilities

  • Perform venipunctures and skin punctures to obtain blood specimens according to Clinical Laboratory Standards Institute guidelines.
  • Exhibit knowledge of adequate and correct collection requirements.
  • Perform accessioning procedures accurately to ensure positive identification of specimens.
  • Recognize and resolve discrepancies as appropriate.
  • Evaluate specimen suitability and acceptability, resolving or referring problems as necessary.
  • Perform testing and record Point of Care instrument maintenance, troubleshooting, and quality control as assigned.
  • Handle and replenish reagents and supplies according to established protocols.
  • Follow established reporting procedures as appropriate.
  • Record and report problems and solutions as appropriate.
  • Navigate and access multiple computer applications as needed.
  • Provide phlebotomy coverage to Medical Group offices, skilled nursing facilities, or perform in-home phlebotomy for homebound patients.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
  • Valid PA driver's license
  • Minimum of 1 year of previous phlebotomy experience or completion of a NAACLS accredited training program.
