About the position

The Phlebotomist I position involves assisting in various assigned duties related to blood collection and specimen handling. The role requires proficiency in performing blood draws, labeling specimens, and ensuring compliance with established procedures and regulations. The phlebotomist will also be responsible for training, troubleshooting, and making workflow recommendations to enhance operational efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Experience doing blood draws, labeling specimens, and centrifuging specimens.
  • Recording maintenance data and decontamination of equipment.
  • Updating patient information and collecting specimens according to established procedures.
  • Explaining the process of venipuncture and blood drawing clearly and courteously.
  • Demonstrating techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
  • Understanding and following all physicians' orders accurately.
  • Matching laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes and ensuring 100% accuracy in labeling.
  • Packaging specimens for transport and storing them according to required temperature.
  • Placing samples in appropriate collection containers/tubes and following outlined protocols for transport.
  • Complying with OSHA and DEP regulations and attending annual department trainings.
  • Answering telephone calls and reading laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.

Requirements

  • Experience in phlebotomy and blood draws.
  • Proficiency with butterfly and straight needles.
  • Ability to accurately label and handle specimens according to protocols.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite.

Benefits

  • Contract-to-Hire position with a duration of 13 weeks.
  • Full-time hours from Monday to Friday, 7:15 AM to 4:15 PM.
