About the position

The Phlebotomist/Lab Assistant position is a full-time role based in a fast-paced medical office in Jacksonville, NC. The primary responsibility is to collect blood and urine samples from patients, ensuring proper identification and accuracy in laboratory specimen handling. The role requires effective communication with healthcare providers and staff, as well as maintaining confidentiality and adhering to laboratory policies.

Responsibilities

  • Collect blood or urine samples from patients, ensuring proper identification on containers and paperwork.
  • Check laboratory specimens and requisition forms for accuracy.
  • Receive and order tests, process and package specimens for transportation to reference laboratories.
  • Ensure specimens are labeled correctly and match the accompanying requisition.
  • Facilitate requested changes from providers or other staff personnel.
  • Use computer systems to enter laboratory test orders and patient demographics.
  • Perform quality control on samples and package them according to lab standards for shipping.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all laboratory information according to policy.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Certified Phlebotomist with at least 2 years of experience.
  • Reliable transportation and liability insurance for vehicle.
  • Ability to learn the eReq system and possibly the office EMR.
  • Clear and clean handwriting for labels and documents.
  • Medical experience is required.
  • Current Phlebotomy Certificate is mandatory.
  • Ability to type with speed and accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently under general supervision.
  • Must be able to stand for long periods and move quickly when needed.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced production environment to meet established turnaround times.
  • Must be reliable and punctual with reliable transportation.
  • Personable and able to work well with office staff and clients.
  • Ability to perform work with a high degree of accuracy and strong attention to detail.
