About the position

The Phlebotomist Registrar is a part-time PRN position responsible for collecting accurate demographic and insurance information from patients prior to services. This role aims to minimize financial risks associated with third-party denials and delayed collections. The Phlebotomist ensures specimen integrity during collection and follows standard operating procedures to maintain patient safety and customer focus.

Responsibilities

  • Collect proper specimens from patients, including blood, urine, or cultures according to physician's orders.
  • Follow standard operating procedures for positive patient identification, collection, labeling, processing, and handling of specimens.
  • Enter patient demographics for registration and order entry of tests, resolving ambiguous test orders by contacting medical/laboratory personnel.
  • Ensure appropriate insurance eligibility and authorizations are present prior to or at the time of services.
  • Responsible for the point-of-service collection of patient cost-sharing amounts prior to or at the time of service.
  • Refer patients to Financial Counselors for financial assistance when applicable.
  • Ensure cash drawer is cashed out appropriately daily.
  • Communicate effectively and appropriately with all customers, demonstrating excellent customer service.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Thirteen-week phlebotomy course or 3-month military course preferred.
  • Current BLS (CPR) certification in compliance with site policy for new hires.
  • Certification from an approved phlebotomy program preferred.
  • Current valid driver's license required.
  • Previous phlebotomy experience preferred.
  • One year of customer service experience required.
  • One year of experience in patient registration and/or patient accounts or in a physician's office practice or other healthcare facility preferred.
