About the position

The Phlebotomist position at CSL Plasma involves the efficient and effective collection of plasma from donors through venipuncture and monitoring the pheresis process. The role requires adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and FDA guidelines to ensure donor safety and product quality. The Phlebotomist will educate donors about the donation process and maintain accurate records while promoting a positive experience for donors.

Responsibilities

• Perform all aspects of the pheresis procedure and plasma collection, including donor set-up, monitoring, and disconnect.
• Conduct venipuncture on donors to initiate the pheresis process.
• Evaluate vein performance and make necessary corrections to expedite donation time.
• Educate new donors on therapeutic products made from donated plasma and explain the screening process.
• Ensure timely and accurate responses to donor questions.
• Monitor donor reactions and assist or notify appropriate staff as needed.
• Record incidents during the pheresis process using a Personal Digital Assistant (PDA).
• Perform calibrations and verify maintenance of equipment as outlined in SOPs.
• Troubleshoot equipment failures and create incident documentation.
• Monitor donor flow to ensure continuous turnover and alert supervisors of any issues.
• Collect arm or whole blood samples for testing and ensure accurate recording of donor data in the electronic system.
• Maintain a clean work environment and ensure sufficient operating supplies are available.
• Follow all Health Safety & Environmental (HSE) and OSHA policies and procedures.
• Conduct routine audits of internal procedures and documentation.
• Maintain confidentiality of all personnel, donor, and center information.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Minimum twelve (12) months experience in a medical or health care environment preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.
