The position is responsible for the efficient and effective collection of plasma from donors through the performance of venipuncture, monitoring the pheresis process, and adhering to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). The individual will report directly to the Assistant Center Manager. The role involves performing all aspects of the pheresis procedure and plasma collection in compliance with SOPs and Food & Drug Administration (FDA) guidelines. This includes donor set-up, monitoring during the donation process, and safely disconnecting donors after the procedure. The employee will evaluate the vein performance of donors to identify potential issues, making necessary corrections to expedite donation time while ensuring product quality and donor safety. It is crucial to ensure that the donation process is efficient and to make adjustments as needed to create a positive experience for the donor. The role may also involve educating new donors about the therapeutic products derived from donated plasma, explaining the screening process, health screening tests, appointment systems, donation fees, center policies, and proper nutrition. Maintaining alertness to any reactions from donors is essential, and the employee must assist with reactions or notify appropriate staff as necessary. The use of a Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) is required to record incidents during the pheresis process, including machine alerts, volume variances, and donor adverse events. The employee will also be responsible for performing calibrations and verifying that maintenance has been conducted as outlined in the SOPs. Troubleshooting equipment failures and creating incident documentation are also part of the job. The employee will monitor donor flow to ensure continuous turnover and alert supervisors of any issues. Additionally, the role includes collecting arm or whole blood samples for testing and ensuring accurate recording of donor data in the electronic donor information management system. The employee must maintain a clean and efficient work environment, ensure sufficient operating supplies, and follow all Health Safety & Environmental (HSE) and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) policies. Confidentiality of all personnel, donor, and center information must be maintained, and the employee may be cross-trained in other areas as needed. Bilingual skills may be required to meet business needs. Other job-related duties may be assigned as necessary.
