About the position

The Phlebotomist position at the Oklahoma Blood Institute involves providing a safe and pleasant blood donation experience for donors. This role is crucial in ensuring the quality and safety of blood collection while delivering superior customer service. The position offers on-the-job training, making it accessible for candidates without prior experience, and requires flexibility in scheduling, including early mornings, late evenings, and weekends.

Responsibilities

• Perform registration, vitals, medical screening, phlebotomy, heat sealing duties, and record keeping duties associated with blood donation.
• Adhere to all standard operating procedures to ensure blood products are collected within quality standards set by regulatory agencies.
• Assist supervisor in verifying and completing daily paperwork.
• Alert the Supervisor of any problems or concerns related to equipment, venipuncture, donor questions/issues, or equipment performance.
• Assess donor needs throughout the donation process, including evaluating and treating donor reactions.
• Educate donors on blood donation facts, including donation frequency and the need for blood products.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Requirements

• High school degree or GED required; college classes are a plus.
• Reliable transportation and working telephone.
• Ability to stand for long periods and lift 40 lbs regularly.
• Good communication skills and detail-oriented.

Nice-to-haves
