The Phlebotomist position at Lehigh Valley Health Network (LVHN) involves performing various patient services, including phlebotomy, EKG, and DNA collections.   • Perform venipunctures, capillary, POCT, EKG, PKU, DUI, Drug Screen, and DNA collections for all age groups.
  • Positively identify each patient prior to specimen collection using defined laboratory protocols.
  • Accurately label all specimens collected for testing and process them according to laboratory standards.
  • Clarify orders and pre-analytical test requirements as needed.
  • Review requisitioned tests for accuracy before processing and releasing for transport.
  • Perform LIS and HIS data entry for all blood and body fluids.
  • Obtain specimens from various hospital and outpatient locations according to written policies.
  • Respond to customer inquiries regarding specimen requirements and testing schedules.
  • Handle a heavy workload while multitasking and prioritizing effectively.
  • High School Diploma/GED
  • 1 year of relevant experience
  • Proficient computer skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Knowledge of blood drawing techniques and collection regulations
  • Coursework or experience in medical terminology
  • Good interpersonal skills for effective patient interaction
  • Ability to build comprehensive reports and convey information effectively
  • Knowledge of safety guidelines and proper PPE utilization
  • Completion of appropriate training and proficiency within 90 days
  • Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association within 90 days
  • Valid Driver's License in Pennsylvania
  • Technical School Diploma
  • Successful completion of an approved phlebotomy training course
  • 1 year of previous work experience as a phlebotomist
  • CPT - Phlebotomy Technician Certification in Pennsylvania
  • PBT - Phlebotomy Laboratory Technician ASCP certification in Pennsylvania
