About the position

The Phlebotomist is responsible for the efficient and effective collection of plasma from donors through venipuncture and monitoring the pheresis process, adhering to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and FDA guidelines. This role ensures donor safety and product quality while providing a positive donation experience.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all aspects of the pheresis procedure and plasma collection, including donor set-up, monitoring, and disconnect.
  • Perform venipuncture on donors to initiate the pheresis process in compliance with SOPs and FDA guidelines.
  • Evaluate vein performance and make necessary corrections to expedite donation time and ensure quality and safety.
  • Educate new donors about therapeutic products, screening processes, and center policies, ensuring all questions are answered professionally.
  • Maintain alertness to donor reactions and assist or notify appropriate staff as needed.
  • Record incidents during the pheresis process using a Personal Digital Assistant (PDA).
  • Perform calibrations and verify maintenance of equipment as outlined in SOPs.
  • Troubleshoot equipment failures and create incident documentation.
  • Monitor donor flow to ensure continuous turnover and alert supervisors of any issues.
  • Collect arm or whole blood samples from donors for testing.
  • Accurately record donor data in the electronic donor information management system as per SOPs.
  • Understand policies related to hyper immune programs if applicable.
  • Maintain a clean work environment and ensure sufficient operating supplies are available.
  • Follow all Health Safety & Environmental (HSE) and OSHA policies and procedures.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all personnel, donor, and center information.
  • May be cross-trained in other areas to meet business needs.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum twelve (12) months experience in a medical or health care environment preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.
