About the position

The position involves the efficient and effective collection of plasma from donors through venipuncture and monitoring the pheresis process, adhering to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and FDA guidelines. The role focuses on ensuring donor safety and product quality while providing a positive donation experience. The individual will report to the Assistant Center Manager and may also educate new donors about the donation process and related therapeutic products.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all aspects of the pheresis procedure and plasma collection, including donor set-up, monitoring, and disconnect.
  • Conduct venipuncture on donors to initiate the pheresis process in compliance with SOPs and FDA guidelines.
  • Evaluate vein performance and make necessary corrections to expedite donation time and ensure product quality and donor safety.
  • Ensure the donation process is efficient and adjust as necessary to enhance the donor experience.
  • Educate new donors on therapeutic products made from donated plasma and explain the screening process and center policies.
  • Answer donor questions accurately and professionally in a timely manner.
  • Monitor donor reactions and assist or notify appropriate staff as needed.
  • Record incidents during the pheresis process using a Personal Digital Assistant (PDA).
  • Perform calibrations and verify maintenance as outlined in SOPs.
  • Respond to and resolve complex equipment alarms or donor issues, troubleshooting equipment failures as necessary.
  • Create incident documentation and manage equipment service status.
  • Monitor donor flow to ensure continuous turnover and alert supervisors of any issues.
  • Collect arm or whole blood samples from donors for testing and ensure accurate data recording in the electronic donor information management system.
  • Understand policies related to hyper immune programs at the center, if applicable.
  • Maintain a clean and efficient work environment, ensuring sufficient operating supplies are available.
  • Follow all Health Safety & Environmental (HSE) and OSHA policies and procedures, promoting safety in all actions.
  • Conduct routine audits of internal procedures and documentation as needed.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all personnel, donor, and center information.
  • May be cross-trained in other areas to meet business needs.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum twelve (12) months experience in a medical or health care environment preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.
