Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED and 1 year of relevant experience.
  • Proficient computer skills and excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated customer service skills and knowledge of blood drawing techniques.
  • Coursework or previous experience in medical terminology.
  • Good interpersonal skills for effective interaction with patients and providers.
  • Ability to build comprehensive reports and convey information effectively.
  • Knowledge of safety guidelines and proper PPE utilization.

Nice To Haves

  • Technical School Diploma
  • Successful completion of an approved phlebotomy training course or 1-year previous work experience as a phlebotomist.
  • CPT - Phlebotomy Technician Certification - State of Pennsylvania or PBT - Phlebotomy Laboratory Technician ASCP - State of Pennsylvania.

Responsibilities

  • Perform venipunctures, capillary, POCT, EKG, PKU, DUI, Drug Screen and DNA collections for all age groups.
  • Positively identify each patient prior to specimen collection using defined laboratory protocol.
  • Accurately label all specimens collected for testing and process them according to laboratory standards.
  • Clarify orders and pre-analytical test requirements when necessary.
  • Review tests requisitioned for accuracy before processing and releasing for transport.
  • Perform LIS and HIS data entry for all blood and body fluids.
  • Obtain specimens from various hospital and outpatient locations according to written policies.
  • Respond to customer inquiries regarding specimen requirements and testing schedules.
  • Handle a heavy workload while multitasking and prioritizing effectively.
