About the position

The position involves providing comprehensive patient scheduling, registration, insurance verification, and coordination of various medical services. The role requires clinical skills in phlebotomy, EKG, and other diagnostic procedures, ensuring effective communication and coordination, especially during high-volume periods. The job is part-time, primarily located at the Walter Aument Family Health Center, with occasional rotations to other labs.

Responsibilities

  • Perform venipuncture and capillary specimen collection in an ambulatory setting.
  • Validate patient identity and specimen integrity, maintaining knowledge of specimen requirements and clinical protocols.
  • Document all stages of specimen collection in required computer systems.
  • Maintain clinical skills necessary to perform duties.
  • Complete cleaning tasks utilizing regulatory standards.
  • Perform maintenance and inventory of equipment and supplies according to department standards.
  • Conduct complete and accurate patient registration for walk-ins and scheduled appointments.
  • Adapt and perform during high volumes and high patient acuity.
  • Support inbound and outbound calls to or from patients and guests.
  • Screen and relay messages using established protocols.
  • Verify patient, guarantor, coverage, and hospital account information.
  • Perform referral/authorization processes and enter orders for applicable tests.
  • Understand insurance company coverage and referral requirements.
  • Perform electronic and manual verification of insurance coverage.
  • Prepare and release records or orders in the e-Health record.
  • Scan necessary documents into the appropriate medical record.
  • Complete assigned patient scheduling and registration work queues according to performance standards.
  • Resolve work queue issues and missing registration items via electronic medical record.
  • Discuss information with patients regarding co-pays and pre-appointment preparation.
  • Perform necessary functions to collect patient financial obligations.
  • Conduct additional clinical procedures such as EKG and vital signs as needed.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of educational requirements with maximum supervision for initial competency and yearly evaluations.
  • CPR Certification from the American Heart Association required within 30 days of hire.
  • One year of clerical, customer service, or administrative support experience in a customer-oriented organization.
  • One year of experience with basic keyboarding and personal computer use.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous phlebotomy or registration experience.
  • One year of Epic or equivalent Electronic Medical Record experience.
