About the position

The Phlebotomy Technician position at Fort Bliss, El Paso, TX, involves performing phlebotomy and related tasks in a hospital or laboratory environment. The technician will work in a fast-paced environment, ensuring safety and accuracy in blood collection and documentation.

Responsibilities

• Adhere to quality performance standards set by the American Association of Blood Banks and the Federal Food and Drug Administration.
• Perform standardized procedures including phlebotomy, measuring vital signs, and quality control of equipment.
• Conduct quality control checks on equipment and reagents.
• Organize blood collection stations with necessary supplies.
• Perform phlebotomy techniques safely and with minimal trauma to service members.
• Assist service members post-collection to stop bleeding and respond to emergencies.
• Operate a computer workstation for donor registration and phlebotomy documentation.
• Maintain accurate records for all procedures, including vital signs and quality control.
• Collect and dispose of biohazard materials.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED certificate.
• Completion of a full-time training course in phlebotomy, blood-banking, and serology lasting at least nine months.
• BLS certification through the American Heart Association (hands-on course required).
• Minimum of one year of experience as a full-time Phlebotomist in a relevant environment within the last two years.
• U.S. citizenship is required.
• Ability to read, write, and speak English effectively.
• Physical capability to stand or sit for extended periods and perform required services.
