The Phlebotomy Technician position at Potomac Healthcare Solutions involves a range of responsibilities centered around the collection of blood and other specimens for laboratory testing. The technician must adhere to Universal Blood and Body Fluid Precautions at all times to ensure safety and compliance with health regulations. This role requires the ability to lift supplies weighing up to 30 pounds and to communicate effectively with the Laboratory Supply Petty Officer regarding material requirements. Additionally, the technician is expected to research and evaluate new or improved phlebotomy devices to enhance operational efficiency. The technician will utilize an automated Laboratory Information System for entering patient demographics, managing tests requested, generating labels, and querying for completed results. Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients and medical staff is crucial, as is the ability to schedule appointments as necessary. The technician must complete work according to industry and safety protocols, following detailed oral and written directions, precautions, and procedures. Other duties may include answering phones, greeting patients, and processing lab patients as directed by supervisors or departmental needs. To qualify for this position, candidates must have a high school equivalent education and have completed a NAACLS or two-part Phlebotomy program. A current certification and registration as a Phlebotomy Technician from the American Society of Clinical Pathology (PBT-ASCP) or the American Medical Technologists (RPT-AMT) is required. Candidates must have completed 40 hours of classroom training, 100 hours of clinical training, and performed at least 10 successful venipunctures, including skin punctures. A minimum of one year of experience as a Phlebotomy Technician after graduation is also necessary. Staff must complete VA mandatory training as requested and maintain current ACLS/BLS certifications throughout the contract duration. US citizenship is a requirement for this position.
