About the position

The Photo and Video Specialist at Shenandoah University is responsible for producing electronic media that highlights the university's diverse programs and experiences. This role involves videography, photography, editing, and distribution, supporting the marketing and communications team in storytelling across various academic areas. The position requires collaboration with university staff to create visual narratives that align with strategic goals, while also managing digital assets and contributing to the university's evolving visual identity.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with internal and external university individuals and the Office of Marketing & Communications (OMC) staff to produce effective photo/video projects that align with strategic goals.
  • Prioritize projects based on core areas of Recruitment, Retention, Advancement, and the Office of the President.
  • Execute current photo/video trends in visual storytelling techniques.
  • Understand online distribution channels and viewing habits of each channel.
  • Apply knowledge of visual communication, including composition, typography, and color theory.
  • Problem-solve quickly and effectively.
  • Execute simultaneous projects with tight deadlines from concept to completion.
  • Help manage digital asset storage and archiving along with video equipment and storage locations.
  • Excel in interpersonal interactions with students and other individuals being filmed and photographed.
  • Lift 50 lbs and carry up to 25 lbs for extended periods.
  • Maintain great workflows and processes for photo/video capturing and editing.
  • Participate in developing story ideas and contribute to the overall creative vision for projects produced by OMC.
  • Provide a positive role model and assist with educating/training students and student employees.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree with 2-4 years of experience in multimedia production or related studies (video, photography, television or film).
  • Knowledge and skills in photo/video production, including all mediums of light and sound in various environments.
  • Experience with desktop applications such as DaVinci Resolve, Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects, Lightroom, and Photoshop.
  • Knowledgeable with both DSLR and Mirrorless cameras.
  • Proven ability to weave together story and marketing strategy.
  • Understanding of viewing habits for various social media platforms.
  • Drone experience with a valid FAA license is a plus.
