About the position

The Minnesota Star Tribune is offering a 10-week summer internship for college seniors and graduate students in photography and video journalism. This role is designed for dynamic individuals who are passionate about journalism and eager to gain experience in a major-market newsroom. Interns will cover breaking news and enterprise stories, developing their own story ideas while receiving guidance and mentorship from experienced professionals. The internship aims to polish their skills and provide invaluable experience in a reputable media organization.

Responsibilities

  • Develop own story ideas and pursue assignments diligently.
  • Cover breaking news and enterprise stories using photography and video.
  • Conduct themselves in a professional manner while on assignments.
  • Utilize a professional-grade DSLR camera and lenses for still photography and video storytelling.
  • Engage with social media for newsgathering and distribution.

Requirements

  • Strong developing visual sense for still photography.
  • Experience shooting video with a DSLR and handling lighting.
  • Proficiency in video editing skills and knowledge of audio production.
  • Familiarity with Photoshop, Final Cut Pro, Adobe Premiere, and audio editing software.
  • Knowledge of HTML and video encoding techniques.

Nice-to-haves

  • Demonstrated interest in creating innovative content beyond daily reports.
  • Experience in covering a wide variety of events including news, business, sports, and features.
