About the position

The Minnesota Star Tribune is offering a 10-week summer internship for college seniors and graduate students on its Opinion-Editorial team. This internship aims to provide hands-on experience in a major-market newsroom, focusing on opinion writing and visual journalism. Interns will develop their own story ideas, handle assignments for still photography and video storytelling, and gain invaluable experience while being compensated at $850 per week. The internship runs from early June to early August, and successful candidates may have the opportunity to apply for available apprentice positions afterward.

Responsibilities

  • Develop their own story ideas and run hard at assigned tasks.
  • Conduct themselves in a professional manner.
  • Handle assignments for still photography and video storytelling.
  • Cover a wide variety of events including news, business, sports, and features.
  • Utilize social media for newsgathering and distribution.

Requirements

  • Experience in opinion writing at a news organization.
  • At least one professional grade DSLR camera body and lenses.
  • Strong visual sense for still photography and video shooting.
  • Experience with lighting and video editing skills.
  • Knowledge of Photoshop, Final Cut Pro, Adobe Premiere, and audio editing software.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of audio production.
  • Familiarity with HTML and video encoding techniques.
