About the position

The University of Houston is seeking a talented Photographer Videographer to join the Enrollment Services team. This position involves researching, conceiving, and photographing a variety of subjects including portraits, architecture, and campus life for both print and electronic publications. The successful candidate will manage photography for numerous institutional and presidential requests, acting as the university's liaison for outsourced photography projects. This role requires a creative individual who can work collaboratively with the art director and graphic designers to translate marketing objectives into compelling visual executions. In addition to managing the photographic component of all publications, advertising, and university collateral from concept to completion, the Photographer Videographer will monitor university advertising to ensure adherence to photographic branding and standards. The role involves consulting with clients to evaluate project needs and working closely with designers to capture imagery that best suits those needs. The candidate will also serve as a photography liaison with external entities as required, making recommendations for the best approaches to photographic assignments. The position requires the ability to provide video, audio, and high-resolution still photography both in the studio and on location. The successful candidate will edit and format multimedia images using state-of-the-art equipment and software, and will also provide assistance and training on photographic and multimedia equipment to interns and staff as needed. The role includes researching, recommending, and utilizing new technologies for media and publications, as well as maintaining media equipment, facilities, supplies, and archives. Other job-related duties may be assigned as necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Researches, conceives and photographs portraits, architecture and campus life for department publications both print and electronic.
  • Manages photography for a myriad of institutional and presidential requests and serves as university liaison for outsourced photography projects.
  • Manages the photographic component of all publications, advertising and university collateral from concept to completion.
  • Works in tandem with art director and graphic designers to translate marketing objectives in creative executions.
  • Monitors university advertising for adherence to photographic branding and standards.
  • Consults with clients to evaluate individual project needs; works with designers and clients to shoot imagery best suited to project needs.
  • Serves as photography liaison with outside entities, as needed.
  • Makes recommendations for the best approach to photographic assignments.
  • Provides video, audio and high resolution still photography in the studio and on location.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of directly related job experience.
  • Thorough understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of photography and videography.
  • Experience in higher education is preferred.
  • Strong service leadership skills including mutual respect, active listening, and responsiveness.
  • Ability to multi-task, stay organized, and work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
  • Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to clearly interpret and implement policies and procedures.
