About the position

The Photographer Videographer position at the University of Houston involves a dynamic role focused on capturing and producing high-quality visual content that represents the university's brand and mission. The successful candidate will research, conceive, and photograph a variety of subjects including portraits, architecture, and campus life for both print and electronic publications. This role requires managing photography for numerous institutional and presidential requests, acting as a liaison for outsourced photography projects, and overseeing the photographic component of all publications, advertising, and university collateral from concept to completion. In collaboration with the art director and graphic designers, the photographer will translate marketing objectives into creative visual executions. The position also entails monitoring university advertising to ensure adherence to photographic branding and standards. The photographer will consult with clients to assess individual project needs and work closely with designers to capture imagery that best suits those needs. Additionally, the role includes serving as a photography liaison with external entities when necessary and making recommendations for the best approaches to photographic assignments. The position requires providing video, audio, and high-resolution still photography both in the studio and on location. The photographer will edit and format multimedia images using state-of-the-art equipment and software, and provide assistance and training on photographic and multimedia equipment and related software to interns and staff as needed. The role also involves researching, recommending, and utilizing new technologies for media and publications, as well as maintaining media equipment, facilities, supplies, and archives. Other job-related duties may be assigned as necessary.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of directly related job experience.
  • Thorough understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of photography and videography.
  • Experience in higher education is preferred.
  • Strong service leadership skills including mutual respect, active listening, and responsiveness.
  • Ability to multi-task, stay organized, and work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to interpret and implement policies and procedures clearly.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including public speaking.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
