About the position

WFTV Orlando is seeking a passionate and skilled Photographer/Videographer who is dedicated to visual storytelling and making a significant impact in the community through news coverage. This role involves collaborating closely with reporters in the field to create visually compelling and informative news stories. The ideal candidate will take ownership of their work, thrive in fast-paced environments, and understand the critical role of local news in the community. The position requires a proactive approach to gathering and editing news content, showcasing a commitment to quality and creativity in every project. As a Photographer/Videographer, you will be responsible for shooting and editing local news stories that are not only engaging but also clear and easy to understand. You will need to operate and maintain professional video cameras and related news gathering equipment, including laptops, iPhones, LiveU devices, and drones. Familiarity with non-linear editing techniques is essential, as you will be expected to meet tight deadlines while producing high-impact stories. Additionally, you will need to troubleshoot and maintain live equipment, including microwave and satellite systems, ensuring that all technical aspects of the job are handled efficiently. The role demands a self-starter who can independently gather voiceovers, sound packages, and natural sound, while also being able to work in various weather conditions and manage equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. You will be responsible for maintaining news vehicles and ensuring they are safe and well-maintained. The position requires flexibility in working hours, as you will be expected to work mornings, nights, weekends, and holidays as needed. Bringing creative story ideas and energy to the job every day is a must, along with adhering to all station policies. A valid driver's license and a clean driving record are also required for this position.

Responsibilities

  • Shoot and edit compelling local news stories that are clear and easy to understand.
  • Work under pressure and make quick decisions in the field.
  • Operate and maintain a professional video camera and related news gathering equipment, including laptops, iPhones, LiveU, and drones.
  • Familiarity with non-linear editing techniques to meet deadlines and create high-impact stories.
  • Operate and maintain live equipment including microwave, satellite, and LiveU backpacks, and troubleshoot ENG/SNG trucks.
  • Troubleshoot equipment issues (camera, laptop, or ENG/SNG trucks) and take ownership of all technical aspects of the job.
  • Collaborate with reporters to create creative and visual stories, active live shots, and ensure daily deadlines are met in high-pressure situations.
  • Gather VO, VO-SOT, and NAT sound packages independently.
  • Work in all weather conditions and carry up to 50 pounds of equipment.
  • Maintain news vehicles for safe operation and keep up with scheduled maintenance.
  • Obtain training to be a drone operator, including taking the FAA drone pilot license exam.
  • Work all scheduled shifts, including mornings, nights, weekends, and holidays.

Requirements

  • 3-5 years of professional experience working as a TV news photographer required.
  • 3-5 years of non-linear editing experience, preferably with Avid editing software.
  • Working knowledge of ENG trucks, as well as LiveU and/or licensed drone pilot.
  • A college degree in Journalism or TV Broadcasting is preferred.
