WMTV 15 News in Madison, Wisconsin, is seeking a talented photojournalist and video editor who excels at identifying, gathering, and editing powerful images and compelling sound. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of producing content that is creatively, technically, and brand-focused for both television and digital platforms. In this role, photojournalists will produce content for all platforms, including broadcast on WMTV newscasts and publication across the station's digital and social media platforms. The position requires high energy and a willingness to embrace new technologies and workflows, moving beyond traditional methods to enhance storytelling. Candidates should be prepared to work both independently and collaboratively with reporters and anchors on live shots, investigative content, and special projects, including live remote broadcasts. The responsibilities include shooting and editing video for daily news broadcasts, collaborating with digital producers to share updates and images from the field, and contributing to the editorial process with strong journalistic ethics and creativity. Candidates must possess solid news judgment, excellent communication skills, and the ability to problem-solve under pressure. Writing skills are a plus, as photojournalists are expected to conduct interviews, log their work, provide shot sheets, and write copy when working solo. Responsibilities

  • Shoot and edit video for daily news broadcasts and all digital platforms.
  • Work solo and collaboratively with reporters and anchors on live shots and special projects.
  • Share updates, video, and still images from the field with digital producers.
  • Conduct and log interviews, provide shot sheets, and write copy when working solo.
  • Contribute to the entire editorial process with journalistic ethics and creativity.
  • Maintain solid news judgment and excellent communication skills under deadline pressure.

Requirements

  • Preferred college degree in journalism or related field.
  • At least one year of newsroom or digital producing experience.
  • Strong research skills and critical thinking abilities.
  • Ability to work quickly and multi-task under deadline pressure.
  • Willingness to work long hours, weekends, and overnights for breaking news.
  • Established presence on digital platforms, including social media.
  • Working knowledge of CMS and digital platforms, including ARC and Social News Desk.
  • Understanding of and adherence to AP Style.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Photoshop is a plus.
  • Ability to reflect on work and feedback positively.
