About the position

The PHP and WordPress Developer position at the North Carolina Department of Natural and Cultural Resources (NCDNCR) involves supporting the restoration and stabilization of the NC Museum of Natural Sciences (NCMNS) website. The role requires diagnosing and repairing issues related to WordPress functionality, ensuring site stability, and providing maintenance recommendations. The successful candidate will need to be available immediately and may have the opportunity for a short extension to complete the work.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose and repair issues related to the missing WordPress login PHP file, restoring login functionality for administrative and content management access.
• Identify and resolve issues preventing updates to static portions of the website, ensuring the ability to make live changes.
• Review the website's custom PHP code, outdated plugins, and legacy configurations, applying necessary fixes to stabilize the codebase.
• Make minor updates to improve website navigation and usability for the public, enhancing content management.
• Provide recommendations for maintaining the website's operability in the short term, including critical updates and proactive monitoring.
• Document all repairs, temporary fixes, and recommendations to ensure the NCMNS team can maintain functionality and address future minor issues.

Requirements

• 6 years of experience with CSS
• 5 years of experience with WordPress
• 5 years of administrative experience
• High school diploma or GED
• 5+ years of PHP development experience
• 5+ years of experience diagnosing WordPress login issues
• 5+ years of experience restoring login functionality
• 5+ years of experience identifying and fixing custom PHP code and outdated plugins
• Strong problem-solving skills
