About the position

The Physical Rehabilitation Technician at Family Health Centers of San Diego (FHCSD) plays a crucial role in supporting the PACE program, which aims to help elderly patients maintain independent living. This position involves a combination of administrative duties and non-clinical support activities related to physical rehabilitation, ensuring that patients receive the necessary therapeutic treatments and assistance during their recovery process.

Responsibilities

  • Instruct, motivate, safeguard, and assist patients in practicing exercises and functional activities under the direction of medical staff.
  • Assist and secure patients into or onto therapy equipment.
  • Transport patients using wheelchairs or providing standing support as needed.
  • Administer active and passive manual therapeutic exercises, therapeutic massage, ultrasound, electrical stimulation, cryotherapy, and heat as per provider instructions.
  • Administer static and intermittent mechanical traction per provider instruction.
  • Observe patients during treatment to compile data on patients' completion of prescribed exercise and response to exercise and modalities, reporting to the physical therapy provider.
  • Clean, sterilize, and disinfect exam tables and equipment as instructed.
  • Maintain supply/stock levels on gym or clinic floor, and in storage areas, ensuring organization and cleanliness per posted guidelines.
  • Maintain ordering of supplies as directed.
  • Provide administrative support functions related to the patient check-in and check-out process, including identification verification and updates to demographic and insurance information.
  • Collect specified co-pays and payments from patients per coverage specifications and self-pay patients, screening for eligibility and financial assistance.
  • Complete all required documentation accurately and promptly by department standards, ensuring placement into the patient's Electronic Health Record.
  • Confirm, request, and process referrals and authorizations.
  • Contact patients to schedule appointments and make reminder/recall notifications.
  • Display a proactive approach to customer service by listening to the patient and accurately identifying customer needs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Minimum 1 year of experience as a physical therapy aide or rehabilitation technician preferred.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in customer service required, preferably in a healthcare environment.
  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent work experience or training required.
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred.
