About the position

The Physical Science Technician position with the Department of the Interior involves working in various program areas related to natural resource management, including water resources, GIS, geology, and air quality. This is a temporary, full-time role expected to last for a six-month seasonal period, with the possibility of variation based on weather conditions, project needs, or funding. The position requires fieldwork, data collection, and analysis, contributing to the management of physical sciences in national parks.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with and implement established natural resource management projects related to physical sciences.
  • Collect and organize field data following instructions and standardized procedures.
  • Perform routine testing of collected samples and monitor conditions in assigned program areas.
  • Evaluate observed conditions and problems, making preliminary determinations on causes.
  • Utilize computer programs to compile, analyze, and report data related to resource management.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • At least one year of specialized experience comparable to the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service, or a bachelor's degree in a relevant field, or a combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in fields such as geophysics, chemistry, hydrology, engineering, geology, or metallurgy is preferred.

Nice-to-haves
