About the position

The Physical Security Specialist position at the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) involves ensuring the safety and security of government personnel and resources through the implementation of management control procedures and security measures. The role includes monitoring incidents, managing security projects, and coordinating emergency responses, all while adhering to established security standards and guidelines.

Responsibilities

  • Implement and monitor management control procedures to ensure effective management of government personnel and resources.
  • Support the installation of countermeasures and secure their placement according to ISC Standards.
  • Review, analyze, and process incidents reported to the Situational Awareness Management Center to detect insider threat activities.
  • Plan, schedule, and implement security projects in assigned areas, including completing Scope of Work and gathering cost estimates.
  • Complete written reports and briefing documents from site reviews and risk assessments, providing feedback on lower-graded employees' reports.
  • Coordinate emergency incidents and support first responders, including planning and conducting emergency drills.

Requirements

  • One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 level in the Federal Service, demonstrating knowledge of security program concepts and practices related to Physical Security.
  • Experience assisting with security reviews and basic risk assessments to ensure minimum security standards are implemented.
  • Education: One full year of graduate-level education in a related field such as national security studies, information technology, or criminal justice, or superior academic achievement with a Bachelor's degree.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience conducting compliance security reviews and evaluating the effectiveness of security programs.
  • Experience drafting written reports of findings from risk assessments and compliance security reviews.
