About the position

Mesa Associates, Inc. is seeking a Physical Substation Electrical Engineer to support the development of General Arrangements for substations and switchyards ranging from 13kV to 500kV. This role involves creating equipment plans, elevations, sections, and layouts, as well as performing grounding analysis and switchgear design. The position offers a flexible, hybrid work schedule and emphasizes professional development and quality improvement.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a Quality champion for Mesa and the design team.
• Foster strong customer relationships through communications and support.
• Cross-train in additional disciplines for professional growth.
• Estimate and assist in the preparation of bid packages.
• Attend scoping meetings as requested for projects.
• Obtain PE license in required states to sign and seal client plans and drawings within one year of employment.
• Complete assignments within budget and schedule with high accuracy.
• Work overtime as required for customers' needs.
• Mentor other designers/engineers to increase knowledge of physical substation design.
• Check/review other personnel's work for accuracy and adherence to client standards.
• Independently evaluate, select, and apply engineering principles relevant to project requirements.
• Share updates with team and leads to improve communications and quality.

Requirements

• Experience in physical substation design and engineering principles.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD/Microstation drafting software.
• Ability to work within budget and schedule constraints.
• Strong communication skills for customer relationship management.
• Willingness to work overtime as needed.
• Desire to mentor and support junior engineers and designers.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with grounding analysis and switchgear design.
• Knowledge of conduit and cable design.
• Interest in cross-training in additional engineering disciplines.
