About the position

The Physical Therapist at Bridgeport Hospital is responsible for evaluating and treating patients in various inpatient and outpatient settings. This role emphasizes collaboration with interdisciplinary teams to provide patient-centered care, ensuring that all treatment is tailored to the specific needs of each patient. The therapist will also engage in clinical supervision, documentation, education, and administrative duties, while serving as a positive ambassador for Rehabilitation Services.

Responsibilities

  • Interpret physician referrals to perform basic clinical evaluations.
  • Utilize assistant and support staff and volunteers appropriately in the delivery of patient care.
  • Delegate responsibility to therapy assistants, clinical students, and support staff, maintaining compliance with clinical supervision and documentation review.
  • Maintain concise and accurate patient care documentation and billing according to policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in professional development and stay informed of current developments in the field through department in-services and other learning opportunities.
  • Use equipment safely and effectively, reporting any malfunctions or missing equipment to the supervisor.

Requirements

  • Graduate of a CAPTE accredited program in Physical Therapy or equivalent and B.S. degree.
  • Must maintain a current unencumbered license or temporary permit to practice as a Physical Therapist in CT.
  • Current BLS certification or ability to obtain within two months of hire.
  • Demonstrate age-specific knowledge in basic anatomy and physiology, psychology, and Physical Therapy theory, evaluations, and treatment techniques.

Nice-to-haves

  • One to two years of experience in an academic/large medical center based practice preferred.
  • Experience working with children and/or adults depending on the assigned setting.
  • Clinical experience with a variety of diagnoses including post-surgical, developmental, neurological, genetic, oncologic, and traumatic.
