About the position

UPMC Williamsport is seeking a Casual/PRN Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) to join our dedicated therapy services team at Williamsport Hospital. This position is designed for individuals who are looking for flexible work hours, as it will primarily involve daylight shifts with opportunities for both weekday and weekend hours. A commitment to work one weekend per month is required. As a PTA, you will play a crucial role in providing physical therapy treatment in accordance with the care plans established by the supervising physical therapist. Your responsibilities will include recommending changes to treatment plans based on patient conditions and responses, maintaining a clean and organized work area, and directing therapy volunteers. You will also be responsible for performing clerical duties as needed and ensuring the safe and professional transport of patients using prescribed transport vehicles. In this role, you will actively participate in staff meetings, departmental committees, and in-service education programs to enhance your professional development. You will be expected to provide appropriate supervision to clinical support staff and complete necessary documentation to accurately reflect the services rendered to patients. Your clinical skills will be utilized to implement treatment programs for a diverse patient population, including pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients, all while adhering to the standards set forth by the Physical Therapy Practice Act of the practicing state. You will also be responsible for maintaining written and electronic documentation that meets or exceeds organizational standards, ensuring that all clinical services rendered are properly recorded and cosigned as per facility guidelines. Responsibilities

  • Attends and actively participates in staff meetings, staff development, departmental committees and in-service education programs.
  • Consistently utilizes and provides appropriate supervision to clinical support staff in accordance with Physical Therapy Practice Act of practicing state.
  • Completes necessary charge/statistical information to accurately reflect services documented and rendered to patients.
  • Competently provides appropriate, comprehensive, and skillful therapeutic interventions based on treatment programs developed by a physical therapist for pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.
  • Competently assists physical therapists in the survey of pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients within the scope of practice permitted by the Physical Therapy Practice Act of practicing state.
  • Maintains written/electronic documentation which meets or exceeds the standard established for the facility by the organization for all clinical services rendered.
  • Ensures documentation is cosigned in accordance with the facility specific guidelines and the Physical Therapy Practice Act of practicing state.
  • Rotates through selected treatment areas and/or facilities when necessary to facilitate organizational needs.
  • Appropriately requests and actively provides objective feedback to supervisors regarding department performance and emergency situations.
  • Schedules to achieve and maintain a level of productivity which meets or exceeds the standard established for the facility by the organization.
  • Demonstrates clinical ability to implement the treatment program within the plan of care outlined by the physical therapist in accordance with patient response to treatment and/or change in patient medical status to maximize outcomes.
  • Recognizes information that requires alteration in the plan of care and notifies the physical therapist in an appropriate and timely manner.

Requirements

  • Graduate of a Physical Therapist Assistant program accredited by the American Physical Therapy Association with an associate's degree as a physical therapist assistant.
  • CPR certification required based on AHA standards, including both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.
  • Licensure as a Physical Therapist Assistant or Physical Therapist Assistant Indirect Supervision.
  • Act 33 clearance with renewal.
  • Act 34 clearance with renewal.
  • Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal.
