About the position

The Physical Therapist Assistant at UPMC Harrisburg is responsible for providing physical therapy treatment as per the established care plan by the supervising physical therapist. This role involves recommending changes to treatment plans based on patient responses, maintaining a clean work environment, directing therapy volunteers, and performing necessary clerical duties. The assistant will also transport patients safely and professionally as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Attends and actively participates in staff meetings, staff development, departmental committees, and in-service education programs.
  • Utilizes and provides appropriate supervision to clinical support staff in accordance with the Physical Therapy Practice Act.
  • Completes necessary charge/statistical information to accurately reflect services documented and rendered to patients.
  • Provides appropriate, comprehensive, and skillful therapeutic interventions based on treatment programs developed by a physical therapist for various patient demographics.
  • Assists physical therapists in the survey of patients within the scope of practice permitted by the Physical Therapy Practice Act.
  • Maintains written/electronic documentation that meets or exceeds facility standards for all clinical services rendered.
  • Rotates through selected treatment areas and/or facilities to facilitate organizational needs.
  • Requests and provides objective feedback to supervisors regarding department performance and emergency situations.
  • Schedules to achieve and maintain a level of productivity that meets or exceeds facility standards.
  • Implements treatment programs within the plan of care outlined by the physical therapist, adjusting as necessary based on patient response.

Requirements

  • Graduate of a Physical Therapist Assistant program accredited by the American Physical Therapy Association with an associate's degree as a physical therapist assistant.
  • CPR certification based on AHA standards within 30 days of hire.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.
  • Licensure as a Physical Therapist Assistant or under Indirect Supervision.
  • Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting certification with renewal.
  • Act 33 certification with renewal.
  • Act 34 certification with renewal.
  • Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal.
