About the position

The Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) at Merriam Gardens Healthcare & Rehab Center works under the supervision of a licensed physical therapist to assist with a patient's treatment program in accordance with federal guidelines and state practice acts. The PTA plays a crucial role in providing direct treatment to residents as directed by the supervising Physical Therapist, ensuring that the care provided aligns with the established plan of care. This position requires a commitment to documenting resident progress towards meeting established goals, which is essential for tracking the effectiveness of the treatment provided. In addition to direct treatment, the PTA is responsible for teaching exercises to residents, family members, and caregivers. This includes providing instruction in the use and care for orthotic and prosthetic devices, as well as other assisting apparatus. The PTA must complete required forms and documents in accordance with company policy and state and/or federal regulations, ensuring compliance with all necessary documentation standards. The role of a PTA also involves participating in company-sponsored training to safeguard against improper use and disclosure of residents' protected health information. The PTA must monitor and ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and state and federal laws regarding the confidentiality of residents' health information. This position may require shift work, and the physical demands include frequent standing, walking, and the use of hands or fingers, as well as occasional exposure to blood or other body fluids, fumes, or airborne particles.

Responsibilities

  • Provides direct treatment to residents as directed by and according to the plan of care outlined by the supervising Physical Therapist.
  • Documents resident progress towards meeting established goals.
  • Teaches exercises to residents, family members, and caregivers and may provide instruction in the use and care for orthotic, prosthetic devices, and other assisting apparatus.
  • Completes required forms and documents in accordance with company policy and state and/or federal regulations.
  • Participates in (or conducts) company-sponsored training to safeguard against improper use and disclosure of resident's protected health information.

Requirements

  • Associate Degree from an APTA accredited program
  • Licensed as Physical Therapist Assistant
