About the position

UPMC Cole is hiring a Casual/PRN Physical Therapist to support therapy services across various settings, including Inpatient, Outpatient, and Rural Health Clinics. This role is designed for those who are looking to work in a dynamic environment with daylight hours and varying start times. The position also includes a weekend and holiday rotation requirement, making it ideal for flexible professionals who are eager to contribute to patient care in a meaningful way. As a Staff Physical Therapist, you will be responsible for reviewing patient charts, performing initial assessments, developing treatment plans, and administering physical therapy treatments and modalities. Your role will involve monitoring patient progress and documenting treatments performed, which includes discharge planning and patient education. The ultimate goal is to enhance overall functioning, alleviate discomfort, and improve flexibility, range of motion, and strength, thereby achieving various medical and therapeutic objectives. In this position, you will communicate the patient's status to the referring physician and collaborate with other healthcare team members. You may also serve as a clinical instructor for physical therapy students, residents, and fellows in specialized areas of physical therapy. Continuous professional development is essential, and you will be expected to maintain your professional license through ongoing education and training. This role requires a commitment to quality patient care and the ability to adapt treatment plans based on patient responses and changing conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Communicates patient's status to the referring physician and other health care team members.
  • May serve as a clinical instructor for physical therapy students, residents, and fellows in a specialty area of physical therapy.
  • Maintains professional license/registration through steady pursuit and participation in appropriate continuing education and professional development opportunities.
  • Performs physical therapy assessment, reassessment, and treatment, and supervises physical therapist assistants in the treatment of patients.
  • Develops a plan of care including goals and treatment plan per physician referral, nature of injury/illness, and results of physical therapy assessment.
  • Modifies or adjusts plan of care based on patient's response to treatment and/or changes in patient's status.
  • Works with PTAs to adjust patient programs as patient status changes.
  • Rotates through selected treatment areas when necessary to facilitate organizational needs.
  • Attends and actively participates in staff meetings and in-service education programs.
  • Maintains written documentation for all physical therapy services rendered, including initial assessment, follow-up visits, and discharge summary.
  • Completes necessary charge and statistical information to accurately reflect the service rendered to the patient.
  • Provides verbal and/or written home instructions to patient and/or family members when applicable.
  • Schedules patients to achieve and maintain a level of productivity that meets or exceeds the standard established for the facility.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited program approved by the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA).
  • Active license in practicing state required.
  • CPR certification required based on AHA standards within 30 days of hire.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification required.
  • Act 33 clearance with renewal required.
  • Act 34 clearance with renewal required.
  • Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal required.
