About the position

Nemours Children's Hospital, Delaware (formerly Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children), is hiring a full-time, float Physical Therapist to provide coverage in our acute care, rehab, and outpatient programs located throughout the Delaware Valley (Delaware, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey). This is a great opportunity to join a busy and growing Therapy team. We provide physical therapy for patients with a wide variety of diagnoses, ranging in age from birth to 17. We are also an early intervention partner with Delaware's Birth to Three Early Intervention Program, providing clinic-based services. The Physical Therapist will provide discipline specific patient examination, evaluation, intervention, documentation, parent/caregiver education, communication, and coordination of care with medical/clinical staff and outside agencies as appropriate within the discipline specific scope of practice and the guidelines designated by the department and the Delaware Valley policies and procedures. The role includes participation in departmental education activities to expand knowledge of patient populations and evidence-based practice.

Responsibilities

  • Provides discipline specific patient examination, evaluation, intervention, documentation, parent/caregiver education, communication, and coordination of care with medical/clinical staff and outside agencies as appropriate.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in the care of all ages: pediatrics and adolescents, and neonates as required by assignment.
  • Able to provide physical therapy services to a variety of patient types while recognizing personal limitations and seeking mentorship as needed.
  • Completes timely documentation as required by departmental policy, Joint Commission, and CARF standards.
  • Attends meetings related to patient treatment and contributes to discussions as an interdisciplinary team member.
  • Consults with other services, families, and outside agencies to recommend durable medical equipment, home/school modifications, and transitional therapy programs prior to discharge from therapy.
  • Maintains knowledge of and familiarity with insurance referral/authorization process and documentation requirements related to therapy services.
  • Completes all mandatory training, including safety, infection control, corporate compliance, HIPAA, bioterrorism, CPR, and program specific respiratory training.
  • Participates in weekend/holiday inpatient coverage rotation when required by assignment.

Requirements

  • Doctorate Degree in Physical Therapy or its equivalent from a CAPTE-accredited university required.
  • Minimum of three (3) to six (6) months experience required. New graduates will be considered based on educational experiences.
  • State of Delaware physical therapy license required upon hire.
  • All clinical float staff are required to hold additional physical therapy licenses in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
  • Pennsylvania clearances are required upon hire for those with a Pennsylvania license or will be required as part of the onboarding process.
  • American Heart Association BLS certification required within 6 months of date of hire and must be maintained for duration of employment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Member of professional specialty organizations (APTA or State Physical Therapy Association) preferred.
  • Clinical affiliation and/or work experience in pediatrics preferred.
