About the position

The Physical Therapist in the Women's Health Department of Veterans Affairs is responsible for utilizing scientific principles to identify, prevent, remediate, and rehabilitate physical dysfunction in patients. The role focuses on individuals with neuromuscular, skeletal, pulmonary, and cardiovascular disorders, evaluating their functional levels and promoting optimal health and function. This position requires comprehensive evaluations, therapeutic interventions, and collaboration with other healthcare professionals to meet patient needs.

Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive evaluations to ascertain the patient's functional status, rehabilitation needs, goals, and rehabilitation potential.
  • Review patient medical records to assess appropriateness of physical therapy intervention and identify potential risks or contraindications to treatment.
  • Establish therapeutic agendas that are age-appropriate and based on the patient's identified deficits and expressed goals.
  • Independently modify goals and treatment based on patient response to care.
  • Schedule patients for evaluation in a manner that meets their needs without negatively impacting other clinical staff.
  • Provide therapeutic interventions focusing on posture, locomotion, strength, endurance, balance, coordination, joint mobility, and flexibility.
  • Perform appropriate cleansing and re-processing of reusable medical equipment in compliance with VHA directives and SOPs.
  • Complete evaluations including medical history and functional tests to address rehabilitation potential and psychosocial development.
  • Plan and facilitate treatment programs for patients with complex impairments and provide therapeutic interventions to meet functional goals.
  • Supervise and train students, volunteers, therapy assistants, therapists, and non-PT students.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Bachelor's degree in physical therapy with five years of progressively independent experience, or a Master's degree with two years of experience, or a Doctorate in physical therapy.
  • Full, current, and unrestricted license to practice physical therapy in a U.S. state, territory, or the District of Columbia.
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English.

  • Experience working with CITC and referral coordination teams.
  • Vast experience with conflict resolution.
