About the position

The Physical Therapist at Frederick County Public Schools will develop and implement therapy programs for students with physical disabilities. This role involves collaboration with medical professionals, educators, and families to ensure effective therapy interventions and support for students' educational needs.

Responsibilities

  • Provides therapy in areas such as range of motion, posture, gait, strength, motor development, and functional abilities for students with disabilities.
  • Assesses students using evaluation tools to determine the need for therapy intervention plans.
  • Maintains communication with medical doctors regarding student therapy needs.
  • Develops and implements individualized therapy programs for qualifying students.
  • Documents screenings, evaluations, Individual Education Programs, and progress reports as required.
  • Consults with classroom teachers and school staff about students' functioning in the school environment.
  • Functions as a member of an interdisciplinary team to provide appropriate educational programming for students with disabilities.
  • Provides classroom programs and instruction in management techniques and adapted equipment.
  • Consults with parents regarding students' therapy programs.
  • Adapts and maintains specialized equipment for therapy services.
  • Investigates and recommends equipment to meet student needs and assists with funding sources.
  • Provides in-service training to teachers and school personnel as needed.
  • Supervises physical therapist assistants and provides clinical education for therapy student interns.
  • Plans, orders, and maintains departmental supplies and equipment; maintains records as required.
  • Travels between locations to provide services to students.
  • Maintains clinical and administrative records in accordance with State Guidelines and school board policy.
  • Completes Medicaid billing as required.

Requirements

  • Graduation from a four-year accredited program of physical therapy and two years of experience or a master's degree in physical therapy.
  • Licensed as a physical therapist by the Virginia Department of Health Professions: Board of Physical Therapy.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license issued by the State of Virginia.
  • Thorough knowledge of physical therapy theory, principles, and methods.
  • Considerable knowledge of evaluating tools and assistive technology for therapy.
  • Ability to adapt or design equipment for individual needs and administer treatment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working in an educational environment.
  • Familiarity with current literature and trends in physical therapy and general medicine.
  • Ability to train others in therapy principles.
