About the position

The Physical Therapy Aide position is a part-time role responsible for supporting the Physical Therapy Department by maintaining an orderly environment, preparing treatment areas, assisting patients, and performing various administrative tasks. The aide plays a crucial role in ensuring that patients receive timely and effective care while also managing supplies and equipment in the department.

Responsibilities

  • Greets patients who come to the Physical Therapy Department.
  • Determines the nature of the patients' visit and explains relevant procedures.
  • Informs Physical Therapist that the patient has arrived for their scheduled appointment.
  • Maintains the department in an orderly fashion.
  • Prepares and cleans treatment areas and equipment before and after treatment.
  • Stocks treatment areas with appropriate supplies.
  • Replaces linen bags when filled.
  • Maintains equipment in proper working order and reports any unsafe equipment to the supervisor.
  • Orders and maintains supplies for the reception and clinical areas.
  • Assists patients by answering questions or referring them to appropriate medical facility staff for assistance.
  • Escorts patients from the waiting room into the treatment area and assists in preparation for treatments.
  • Assists in preparation of treatment procedures and obtains necessary equipment.
  • Prepares hydro collator and ice packs, and prepares set-ups for other physical therapy procedures.
  • Under direction from the provider staff, applies modalities when appropriate.
  • At the end of treatment, removes hydro collator/ice packs, shuts off equipment, and escorts patients out of treatment.
  • Cleans whirlpools, hydro-collators, and paraffin baths, and disposes of bio-hazardous waste bags.
  • Assists with receptionist duties including receiving telephone calls, taking messages, and confirming appointments.
  • Assists providers with referral management and patient education.
  • Manages the inventory of linen for the clinic and provides one-on-one patient supervision during the exercise portion of the treatment plan.
  • Informs provider staff of any patient requiring immediate attention and assists with data collection and quality assurance indicators.

Requirements

  • Previous experience in a clinical setting involving patient care or education in a related field is required.
  • High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) is required.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills are required.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology is required.
  • Proficiency in the use of applicable computer software is required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous reception experience preferred, ideally in a clinical setting.
