About the position
The Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA) role at VNS Health involves providing physical therapy interventions to patients under the supervision of a Physical Therapist. The PTA is responsible for monitoring patient progress, documenting care, and ensuring compliance with established therapy plans. This position requires travel to various patient locations and the ability to assist patients with therapeutic interventions and daily living activities.
Responsibilities
- Provide physical therapy interventions to designated patients under the supervision of a Physical Therapist.
- Monitor patient progress through observations and follow up with the supervising therapist.
- Document all care provided and maintain records per VNS Health policy and standards.
- Manage assigned caseload and provide physical therapy services as directed by the PT plan of care.
- Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings and training programs.
- Travel to patients' homes and/or other facilities to deliver direct care.
- Assist patients with therapeutic interventions and activities of daily living, including positioning and transferring patients.
- Use and assist patients with durable medical equipment as part of the care plan.
- Provide care in accordance with agency policies and professional standards.
- Transport and utilize required technology devices and supplies to and from patient locations.
Requirements
- New York State Certification as Physical Therapist Assistant is required.
- Associate's Degree as Physical Therapist Assistant from a New York State approved program is required.
- Minimum of two years experience in clinical patient care is required.
- Valid driver's license may be required based on operational needs.

- Bilingual skills may be required based on operational needs.
- Basic PC skills are preferred.
