About the position

MedStar Health is seeking a Physical Therapy Assistant to join their Home Care team. The role involves providing physical therapy treatment under the direction of a physical therapist, ensuring compliance with agency standards and relevant regulations. The position emphasizes patient care, communication with healthcare teams, and participation in community outreach efforts, contributing to the overall health and rehabilitation of patients in their homes.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the patient and caregiver in planning for discharge.
  • Help the physical therapist prepare an adequate discharge plan, including referrals to community resources.
  • Assist in assessing the patient's environment and recommending adaptive equipment or home modifications.
  • Assist in obtaining reimbursable items such as orthotics or durable medical equipment.
  • Communicate with supervisors and the rehab department regarding patient care and scheduling issues.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with other departments and participate in quality improvement teams.
  • Participate in meetings and represent the department in community outreach efforts.
  • Enhance personal knowledge and skills through educational programs.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with the healthcare team regarding patient status.
  • Provide information to patients about their functional status and progress towards goals.
  • Perform medical record entries according to agency standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide educational materials to patients and caregivers regarding treatment and care management after discharge.
  • Deliver physical therapy services in accordance with the treatment plan established by the physical therapist.
  • Perform therapeutic procedures and modalities, including therapeutic exercise and gait training.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree from an accredited Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA) program.
  • 1-2 years of clinical experience.
  • Licensed Physical Therapist Assistant in the District of Columbia, Maryland, or Virginia.
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification.
  • Valid State Driver's License in good standing.
