About the position

The Physical Therapy Assistant at the Surgical Institute of Reading is responsible for implementing established physical therapy plans of care and providing treatments to patients to enhance their independence and functioning. This role operates under the supervision of a Licensed Physical Therapist and involves direct patient interaction, documentation, and collaboration with the care team.

Responsibilities

  • Implement patient's individualized treatment plan as defined by the primary Physical Therapist.
  • Consult with supervising Physical Therapist regarding any changes in a patient's functional or medical status.
  • Provide individualized physical therapy treatment including modalities and exercises as outlined by the primary Physical Therapist.
  • Assist the Physical Therapist during tests, evaluations, and complex procedures.
  • Instruct patients, families, and caregivers in the skills and techniques of the physical therapy treatment program under supervision.
  • Consult with other care team members to select appropriate activities for each patient.
  • Maintain appropriate and timely patient documentation for all patients treated.
  • Attend and contribute to patient care, staffing conferences, and related facility meetings.
  • Requisition supplies and equipment as necessary.
  • Clean, maintain, identify, and report the need for repair of equipment as necessary.
  • Ensure high-quality customer service for patients and families in a caring atmosphere.
  • Remain flexible and adaptive to new ideas and approaches.
  • Review and carry out physician orders in a professional manner.
  • Be knowledgeable and responsive to emergency situations.
  • Report and complete appropriate forms for incidents related to patients, visitors, and employees.
  • Prepare the area to ensure patient safety during hospital stays and therapy sessions.
  • Assist with other duties when asked.

Requirements

  • Must be a graduate of an accredited Physical Therapist Assistant program certified by the American Physical Therapy Association.
  • Must be licensed and/or eligible for licensure as required in the state of practice.
  • Maintains continuing education credits as required by the State.
  • Current BLS certification.
