About the position

The Physician Assistant in Cardiothoracic Surgery at Henry Ford Macomb Hospital is responsible for providing advanced clinical care to cardiac, vascular, and thoracic patients. This role involves assessment, diagnosis, and treatment initiation in collaboration with surgeons, while performing various clinical activities under supervision. The position requires participation in pre-, intra-, and post-operative care, including assisting in surgical procedures and formulating post-operative treatment plans.

Responsibilities

• Provide advanced assessment and differential diagnosis for cardiac, vascular, and thoracic patients.
• Collaborate with attending surgeons in clinical decision-making and treatment initiation.
• Assist in pre-, intra-, and post-operative care of patients.
• Prepare and record patient histories and perform physical examinations.
• Assist in surgical procedures and perform endoscopic vein and radial artery harvesting.
• Formulate post-operative treatment plans for patients.
• Maintain prescriptive authority under the collaborating physician's supervision.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree; completion of an AMA approved Physician Assistant or Surgeon's Assistant program.
• Michigan state licensure and NCCPA certification.
• Current BLS and ACLS certification.
• 1 year of previous First Assist experience in a surgical setting.
• Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Excellent organizational, analytical, and decision-making skills.

Nice-to-haves

• Cardiothoracic and vascular critical care or surgical experience preferred.
